Softball's Lloyd Shuts out Ball State

Eagles Complete Sweep of Cardinals
YPSILANTI, Mich. – Michelle Lloyd (Akron, Ohio-Archbishop Hoban) threw her second complete-game shutout of the weekend as the Eastern Michigan University softball team downed Ball State 4-0 in Mid-American Conference action here today at Varsity Field. Ashley Strauss (Trenton, Mich.-Trenton) was a perfect 3-for-3 at the plate with two doubles and a home run, tying a school record for extra-bases hits in a single-game.
With the win the Eagles move to 23-24 overall and 11-7 in league play, while the Cardinals drop their eighth straight falling to 12-26 and 5-12 in the MAC.
Lloyd allowed four hits while striking out seven batters in her fifth career complete-game shutout. She defeated Miami 6-0, Friday, April 28.
Strauss went 3-for-3 with two doubles and a two-run home run becoming the third Eagle to hit three extra-base hits in a single-game. She also knocked in and scored two runs in today’s contest.
Junior Lauren Clark (Flat Rock, Mich.-New Boston Huron) went 1-for-3 and knocked in two runs off a double to deep left field. Senior Katie Grens (Elgin, Ill.-Elgin) went 2-for-3 and extended her hitting streak to five games.
Strauss led-off the game with a double to left centerfield and senior Kelly Gulliver (Allen Park, Mich.-Allen Park) reached on a bunt single. Clark’s two-run double gave the Eagles a 2-0 advantage after the first inning.
EMU added two more runs in the fifth after a two-run home run by Strauss to right centerfield.
The Eagles are in action again Tuesday, May 2, when they welcome Oakland to Varsity Field for a doubleheader. First pitch is slated for 2 p.m.
