Women's Golf Finishes Sixth at MAC Championships

Sophomore Catherine Fortin earns first-team All-MAC honors

INDIAN SPRINGS, Ohio – The Eastern Michigan University women’s golf team finished sixth at the 2006 Mid-American Conference Championships at Walden Ponds Golf Club in Indian Springs, Ohio. The Eagles fired a 301 during Sunday's final round, their sixth-best 18-hole performance this season.
As a team, the Eagles fired a rounds of 314-313-314-301 to finish the tournament in sixth place, three strokes behind the Ohio Bobcats at 1239. Kent State captured its eighth consecutive conference title with a score of 1116. Toledo finished second with a score of 1226 to edge BSU’s 1230 total by just four strokes.
Four Eagles finished in the top 25 at the event. Freshman Stephany Fleet tied for 11th with a 306 (79-76-77-74) while sophomore Catherine Fortin finished 15th with a three-day score of 310 (75-76-80-79). Junior Katie Strawser placed 17th with a 311 (80-81-78-72) while junior Kelly Boogaard finished tied for 24th with a 316 (80-81-79-76). Sophomore Paola Sanchez rounded out the EMU lineup with a 322 (80-80-80-82) for a 31st place tie.
For her efforts this season, Fortin earned first team All-MAC honors joining Toledo's Tammy Clelland, Kent State's Becky Wood, Tara Delaney, and Kira Meixner on the squad. With the honor, Fortin becomes just the seventh Eagle to earn All-MAC accolades and the first since 2003 when Heather Nolan garnered first team honors.
This is the first year the MAC Women’s Golf Championship was a 72-hole event.
The 2006 MAC Championship was held for the seventh-straight year at Walden Ponds Golf Club in Indian Springs, Ohio. It is a 5,822-yard, par-72 layout.
