YPSILANTI, Mich. -- The Eastern Michigan University baseball team extended its current winning streak to three straight games after defeating the Oakland University Golden Grizzlies, 10-8, here Tuesday night at Oestrike Stadium.

The Eagles’ first four hits of the contest were doubles en route to matching its highest run total of the year. EMU was led by sophomore Jeff Davis swatted two doubled in five trips to the plate while driving in three. Sophomore pitcher Dan Puls (1-0) picked up his first win of the season in a relief role going 1.2 innings with one strikeout, two scattered hits while only allowing a run.

Junior Andy Brinker went 2-for-4 with three RBI and a run scored to lead the Golden Grizzles (10-23).

Eastern took an early lead in the top of the first courtesy of a Davis double to score Josh Ivan.  Another double by Steve Bradshaw plated Davis for the 2-0 edge. EMU kept the pressure on in the second to take a 5-0 lead via doubles by Brian Blackburn and Davis.

Oakland finally got on the board with two runs in the third inning with the aid of an Eagle error to pull to 5-2. EMU’s fielding problems continued in the fourth inning as a dropped fly ball with the based loaded and two outs enabled three Golden Grizzlies to tie the game at 5-5. In the bottom of the frame the Eagles responded as Ivan scored on a on a fielder’s choice and Blackburn scored on an error by the pitcher to regain the lead at 7-5.

A two-run homer by Matt Moffett gave EMU a 9-5 lead in the bottom of the fifth. Oakland would not go quietly adding a run in the seventh inning and two more in the eighth to pull within two, 10-8. But freshman Kevin Wammes tossed a perfect ninth to seal the victory for his third save of the season.
