Rowing Competes at Lubbers Cup

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Eastern Michigan University rowing team competed at the 2006 Lubbers Cup hosted by Grand Valley State University Crew Club, in Grand Rapids Michigan. The Eagles raced Grand Valley State, Notre Dame, Western Michigan, Northern Michigan and the Michigan State University club team. EMU posted the top time in the freshman novice 4B race.
The teams will score points for finishing in the top three in each race, with the team finishing first winning the "Don" Lubbers Cup, named after Arend D. "Don" Lubbers, president of Grand Valley State from 1969 to 2001. Contrary to popular belief, the meet has nothing to do with the seafaring insult "landlubber."
EMU could not successfully defend its 2005 Lubbers Cup title as Notre Dame was the 2006 winner.
