Men's Track Claims MAC Indoor Title

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio--The Eastern Michigan University men’s track team tallied 171 total points to capture its 10th title in the last 11 years of competition at the Mid-American Conference Indoor Track Championships hosted here in the Perry Center by Bowling Green State University.
Kent State came in second (134 points) while Central Michigan finished third (124.50 points), Akron fourth (116.50 points) with Buffalo placing fifth (63 points) and Ohio sixth (46 points).
The Most Outstanding Field Performace went to Eastern Michigan’s David Adamek (Ridgeway, Ontario, Canada-Ridgeway Crystal Beach). Adamek broke the MAC Championship Meet record in the shot put with a throw of 61feet-11.00 inches (18.87m), which is a NCAA provisional mark. EMU head track coach Brad Fairchild was named Coach of the Year.
On the final day of competition, the Eagles were also led by senior Roy Shavers (Flint, Mich.-Central) who notched two second place finishes in the 200 and 400 meterdash with times of :21.86 and :49.09 respectively. Redshirt junior Corey Nowitzke (Monroe, Mich.-Monroe) took the title in the one mile run with a time of 4:08.97 while redshirt freshman Jake Dubois (Jackson, Mich.-East Jackson) finished first in the 800 meter run with a time of 1:56.09. Junior Adam Kring (Jeddo, Mich.-Port Huron Northern) notched a 6-feet-10.75 inch jump to finish second place in the high jump.
On Friday, the Eagles easily claimed victory in the distance medley relay with a time of 10:00.18 ran by the team of freshman David Brent (Monroe, Mich.-St. Mary’s Catholic), redshirt freshman Adrian Simmons (Romulus, Mich.-Romulus), Dubois and Nowitzke.
In other Friday finals, the Eagles had top finishes from: redshirt freshman Josh Karanja (Ottawa, Canada-Nepean) with a second-place finish in the 5,000 meters in 14:37.47, Adamek with a third in the weight throw at 63-feet-00.25, senior Matt Pinter (Big Rapids, Mich.-Big Rapids) with a fifth in the weight throw, redshirt sophomore Phil Saffron (Grosse Pointe, Mich.-Grosse Pointe North) with a third in the pole vault at 15-feet-5.5 inches, and redshirt junior Josh Goodrich (Fairlawn, Ohio-Copley) with a fifth-place finish in the pole vault at 14-feet-11.5 inches.
