TERRE HAUTE, Ind.- The Eastern Michigan University men’s cross country team witnessed the final collegiate race in the career of one of the top runners in school history, Corey Nowitzke (Monroe, Mich.- Monroe). Nowitzke traveled to Indiana Monday, Nov. 20, to compete at the NCAA Championships hosted by Indiana State University, where he finished 30th overall (31:36.5) out of 250 runners in the 10k event.

With his showing, Nowtizke garnered All-American honors for Cross Country. The Monroe, Mich. native was the eighteenth American with the top 25 Americans being honored.

Prior to Monday’s race, Nowitzke was also honored by the United States Collegiate Cross Country Association as the NCAA Great Lakes Regional Cross Country Athlete of the Year.

The 2006 finish was a 22-place improvement from the 2005 NCAA Championships, when Nowitzke placed 52nd (30:33.5).

Nowitzke was the only EMU representative at the NCAA Championships this season.

Josh Rohatinsky from BYU won the individual championship with a time of 30:44.9, while the University of Colorado claimed the top team honors.

This race marked the last competition for the Eagles in their 2006 campaign, one that saw the Eagles claim their second consecutive Mid-American Conference title and their 12th in school history. Head coach John Goodridge was also named "Coach of the Year" for the second straight time.
