Piccolini and Sulewski Earn All-MAC Honors

Lindsay Piccolini and Kate Sulewski honored by the league for second consecutive season
TOLEDO, Ohio –– Eastern Michigan University volleyball players Lindsay Piccolini (St. Clairsville, Ohio-St. Clairsville) and Kate Sulewski (Ottawa Lake, Mich.-Bedford) have been named to the 2006 All-Mid-American Conference teams. Piccolini was named first team All-MAC for the second consecutive year, while Sulewski earned second team All-MAC accolades.
Highlighting the first team was Eastern Michigan’s Lindsay Piccolini. The senior middle blocker has been the offensive catalyst for the Eagles all season long, leading the program in five statistical categories. Piccolini ended the regular season second in the MAC in kills (4.49 per game), second in points (5.47 points per game) and sixth in blocks (1.18 per game). In conference only tilts, Piccolini remains the league’s runner-up in kills (4.93), points (5.95) and blocks per game (1.23). Piccolini was named MAC West Player of the Week for the period ending Oct. 23.
Joining Piccolini on the All-MAC first team are Northern Illinois senior middle blocker Kate McCullagh, Ohio junior right side Melissa Griffin, Miami sophomore outside hitter Emily Schroeder, Bobcat freshman outside hitter Ellen Herman, Ball State senior libero Amanda McCormick, Western Michigan senior setter Jenifer Sulweski, Bowling green senior setter Chrissy Cothke, Falcon junior middle blocker Stephanie Swiger, BGSU junior middle blocker Kenda Halm, NIU senior libero Gina Guide and OU junior outside hitter Stephanie Blackburn.
EMU junior setter Kate Sulewski earned her second career All-MAC honor by claiming second team honors. The Ottawa Lake, Mich. native currently ranks sixth in the MAC in assists, compiling 1,231 total sets for an average of 11.84 assists per game. The 1,231 assists rank eighth best in EMU single-season history, and she is just 82 assists shy of 4,000 for her career. Kate is the younger sister of Western Michigan setter Jenifer Sulewski, who earned first team All-MAC honors after leading the lead in assists with 13.09 per game.
Capturing All-MAC second team honors were WMU senior outside hitter Kathryn Babcock, Bobcat senior setter Savanah Parra, MU junior middle hitter Carli Reihman, Ohio sophomore middle hitter Amanda Anderson, Kent State senior middle blocker Sarah Wilber, Bronco sophomore middle blocker Ashley Vogl, OU senior libero Michaele Blackburn, Central Michigan sophomore middle blocker Whitney Evers, RedHawk freshman outside hitter Meagan Schoenrock, CMU junior setter Courtney Kersten and BGSU junior leftside hitter Madeline Means.
Player of the Year honors went to Northern Illinois’ Kate McCullagh, while Freshman of the Year was garnered by Ohio’s Ellen Herman.
Comprising the All-Freshman Team are Herman, NIU’s Meagan Schoenrock, Ball State’s Julie Breivogel, Bowling Green’s Corey Domek, Kent State’s Katie Veatch and WMU’s Katie Eberling and Caitlin Strimel,
Eastern Michigan is 13-16 (6-10 MAC) on the season and will next be in action Friday, Nov. 17, when it tangles with top seeded Ohio University in the quarterfinal round of the MAC Tournament at the SeaGate Center in Toledo, Ohio. Game time is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
