MIXED REVIEWS FOR OPEN DATES: The EMU football team is coming off an open date, Oct. 7, after dropping a 33-14 non-league decision at Louisiana Lafayette, Sept. 30. Since the 1985 season, the Eagles are 4-9-1 in games played after an open week. In that span, the Eagles are 6-9 in games played before the open date. The list of the results from open weeks since 1985 is listed on page five of this release.
DESLAURIERS ON THE CENTURY: Senior wide receiver Eric Deslauriers (Gatineau, Quebec, Ontario, Canada-Lennoxville College Prep) caught nine passes for 100 yards at Louisiana Lafayette Saturday (Sept. 30) giving him 12, 100-yard career receiving games. The senior wideout has also caught passes in 28 consecutive games and has recorded 16 games with at least one touchdown grab. He entered the season as EMU’s career touchdown receptions leader with 22 and now has 24. His 100-yard receiving games are listed on page five.
TELEVISION UPDATE: Saturday’s (Oct. 14) EMU at Bowling Green Mid-American Conference football contest will be shown live on Buckeye Cable Television in Ohio. The Toledo at EMU game Saturday, Oct. 21, has been designated as the Mid-American Conference Television Game of the Week and will be shown live on live on Fox Sports Net Ohio and Time Warner 13 in Buffalo N.Y. In addition, the game will be shown on a same-day delay basis on Comcast Local in Michigan and Indiana and Comcast SportsNet Chicago. Michael Reghi will handle the play-by-play duties with Bob Chmiel serving as the analyst with Jeff Phelps on sideline reports.
IRON MEN: Several EMU players have proven to be very durable as starters. Senior place-kicker Andrew Wellock (North Canton, Ohio-Green) has started all 39 games over the past four seasons. Long snapper Jerry Topolinski (Grand Blanc, Mich.-Flint Powers) and offensive lineman Khalid Walton (Southfield, Mich.-Southfield) have started the last 27 straight games. Senior Kevin Howe (Fruitport, Mich.-Grand Haven) has started 20 games in a row, while offensive lineman Courtney Ford (Wilmington, Del.-Howard School of Technology), linebacker Daniel Holtzclaw (Enid, OK-Enid), and linebacker Darran Matthews (Redford, Mich.-Thurston) have started 16 straight games. Senior wide receiver and return specialist Trumaine Riley (Akron, Ohio-Walsh Jesuit) has started 17 consecutive games. Senior wide receiver Eric Deslauriers (Gatineau, Quebec, Ontario, Canada-Lennoxville College Prep) has started 35 of 39 games over the past four seasons.
JEFF GENYK RADIO SHOW SET: EMU head football coach Jeff Genyk will be the featured guest on the Sunday morning radio show, "Green Eggs and Coffee", from 9 a.m.-10 a.m. each Sunday of the football season. The shows, with WTKA radio’s Josh Vernier and WEMU radio reporter Brian Nemerovski serving as co-hosts, will be broadcast live from WTKA’s studio in Ann Arbor. The first show of the 2006 season was Sunday, Aug. 27.
WELLOCK NOW SIXTH ALL TIME: EMU senior place-kicker Andrew Wellock (North Canton, Ohio-Green) has moved into sixth on the Mid-American Conference’s career field goal leaders with 60. The all-time leader is Northern Illinois kicker Steve Azar with 73. There are two kickers at 68, one at 63 and one at 62.
