Eagles Blanked by the Broncos

KALAMAZOO, Mich. – The Eastern Michigan University volleyball team suffered its six consecutive setback this evening, with a 3-0 (29-31, 21-30, 28-30) sweep to the hands of instate rival Western Michigan here at University Arena. The loss dropped the Eagles’ record to 5-11 overall and 0-5 in the Mid-American Conference while the Broncos improved to 12-7 overall and 2-3 in the league.
The Eagles were led by senior Lindsay Piccolini, who tallied 15 kills and a .158 attack percentage. Junior Becky Reenders added nine kills and a blocks and junior Corey Calcamuggio posted six kills and four digs. Senior libero Ashley Cudney had a team-high 18 digs. Junior setter Kate Sulewski finished with 38 assists, eight digs and three kills.
Western had four players reach double figures in kills, led by Kathryn Babcock with 15 and Michelle Moore with 14. Caitlin Strimel added 20 digs and Jenifer Sulewski tallied 52 assists.
EMU continues its short two-match road trip tomorrow, Oct. 7, with a MAC West Division rematch against Northern Illinois. First serve for both tilts is set for 7 p.m. CST.
