Eagles close out 2006 season
MT. PLEASANT, Mich. – Despite a solid effort, the Eastern Michigan University women’s soccer team fell to intra-state rival Central Michigan, 1-0, here Thursday afternoon at the CMU Soccer Complex.
With the loss the Eagles close out the 2006 season with a 6-10-2 (3-8 MAC) record while CMU finishes 13-3-2 (6-3-2 MAC). The finish marks the first time EMU has not qualified for the post season Mid-American Conference Tournament since joining the MAC in 1997.
Central tallied a huge shot advantage, out shooting the Eastern 17-8 with freshman goalkeepers Monquie Budani (Whitby, Ontario-Sinclair Secondary) and Missy Frederick (Canton, Mich.-John Glenn) making four saves each.
There was no scoring throughout the first half until the 42:16 mark when CMU’s Stephanie Martin connected on a shot from six-yards out to give the Chippewas a 1-0 lead.
In the second half, Central was able to hold off Eastern to secure the 1-0 victory as the Eagles put six out of its eight shots on goal but were unable to get a one past Chippewa goalkeeper Anne Decker.
