YPSILANTI, Mich.-- The Eastern Michigan University women’s swimming and diving team was victorious in the first night of back-to-back home conference meets, with a dominating victory over a visiting Akron team 182-109, in Jones Natatorium tonight, Jan. 20. The Eagles won 12 of the meet’s 16 events.

EMU improves to 7-1 on the season and 4-1 in Mid-American Conference action while the Zips fall to 5-4 with a 1-4 conference mark.

Madeleine Pilchard led the Eagles with three first place finishes. Pilchard claimed the 50, 500 and 1000-yard freestyle races. Claire Letendre was EMU’s other dual event winner, with first place finishes in the 100 and 200-yard butterfly races.

Hannah Burandt (200 free), Alissa Ricard 100 backstroke), Becky Renkola (3-meter diving) and Kelley Atkinson (200 backstroke) each emerged victorious for the Eagles.

Eastern returns to the pool tomorrow, Jan. 20, for the second night of MAC action with Ball State. The meet is set to begin at 1 p.m.
