YPSILANTI, Mich. – The Eastern Michigan University women's basketball team shot 50 percent from the field (35-of-70) and placed three players in double figures in an 88-67 exhibition win over the Ohio Girls Basketball Report Legends Sunday, Nov. 13, here at the Convocation Center.

Junior Sarah VanMetre (Noblesville, Ind.-Noblesville) led the Eagles with 17 points off the bench, including 10 in the first half. Kivilcim Yamonoglu (Antalya, Turkey) added 13 points and Canea Williams (Mansfield, Ohio-Mansfield Senior) scored 10.

Sophomore guard Canea Williams sparked the Eagles early, driving the lane for a layup and draining a three-pointer to give EMU a 7-4 lead in the early going. A pair of fast-break layups from sophomore Kivilcim Yamanoglu and a putback by Colleen Russell (Windsor, Ontario-FJ Brennan) contributed to an 8-2 EMU run and stretched the Eagles’ lead to 18-12 midway through the half.

With six minutes to play in the first half, sophomore guard Patrice McKinney (Lansing, Mich.-Everett (Michigan State)) grabbed a rebound and took it coast-to-coast to give EMU a 28-18 lead. A VanMetre triple with just over a minute left in the opening half gave EMU its largest edge of the stanza, 37-25.

VanMetre started the second half hot, scoring seven points in the first four minutes after the break as EMU opened up a 15-point advantage, 51-36.

Junior forward Amy Freidenberger (Butler, Ind.-Eastside) led EMU with nine rebounds, while Williams grabbed eight and McKinney added six . On the afternoon, EMU outrebounded OGBR by a 53-36 count.

Former Ohio State players Larecha Jones and D’Wan Shackleford led the Legends with 29 and 10 points.

The preseason favorite to win the MAC West Division, Eastern opens the 2005-06 campaign when it hosts Central Connecticut State University, Nov. 18, in a game that will be part of a doubleheader with the men’s team hosting the University of California. The women’s game is set for a 6 p.m. tipoff at the Convocation Center, the contest is also being televised by Comcast Local, cable channel 8 in the Ypsilanti/Ann Arbor area
