Lettered in track and was an outstanding runner and relay man from 1929-31... Ran on a championship cross country team in 1929... Won track titles in the two-mile run outdoors in 1930 and also ran on winning relay teams in 1930 at the Ohio Relays... Suffered a broken back in an auto accident while traveling to a track meet in 1931... Confined to a wheelchair after the accident but returned to EMU to earn his degree... Became nationally known for his work with groups of physically challenged people... Appointed to the President's Committee on Employment of the Physically Handicapped... Served for eight years as a vice president of the American Federation of the Physically Handicapped... Was a research engineer for the University of Michigan Research Center from 1953-65... Dorothy Clarke Wilson wrote a book about him, "Handicap Race", that was published in the U.S., England, France and Germany.
