Distance Runners Ready For West Coast Trip

Track & field will send Eagles to Azusa, Calif. and Adrian, Mich.
AZUSA, Calif. & ADRIAN, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) – After the sprinters, jumpers, and throwers displayed their athleticism last week, the Eastern Michigan University track & field program will see its distance runners compete at Azusa Pacific University's Bryan Clay Invitational, April 13-15. Additionally, other members of the team will remain in Michigan for the Don Kleinow Invitational, April 14, hosted by Siena Heights University.
Action in the Golden State will begin at 8 a.m. PT on Wednesday and Thursday, and 9 a.m. PT on Friday. Additionally, the meet will be streamed on FloTrack. Meanwhile, the women's javelin will kick off the Saints' meet on Thursday at 11 a.m.
Junior Baldvin Magnusson (Akureyri, Iceland-Hull University) will make his outdoor debut at the Cougar Athletic Complex where he will compete in the 5000m run. This past summer, Magnusson recorded a personal-best time of 13:45.00 in the event at the U23 European Athletics Championships, July 10. During the indoor season, the Icelandic native recorded a personal-best indoor 5K time of 13:41.39 at the GVSU Holiday Open, Dec. 3.
Classmate Faith Rono (Eldoret, Kenya (Middle Tennessee State)) is back to race in the 5K as well after a top-10 program performance at the Raleigh Relays, March 24. Down in North Carolina, Rono completed the 5000m run in 16:38.89, the sixth-fastest time in EMU history.
The women's team last competed at the Bryan Clay Invitational in 2019 where former Eagle Sydney Meyers produced the third-best 5000m in school history, crossing the finish line in 16:08.63.
Azusa Pacific's women's team is coming off a third-place finish at the NCAA Indoor Championships, the program's best indoor finish in the NCAA era, March 13.
