Men's Cross Country Readies for McNichols Invitational

Eagles set to race against four top-10 programs
YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University men's cross country team will head to Terre Haute, Ind. to compete in the John McNichols Invitational, hosted by Indiana State University Saturday, Sept. 21.
The Eagles return to the LaVern Gibson Championships Cross Country Course after finishing 16th with a team score of 455 points at the 2018 NCAA Great Lakes Regional, Nov. 9. Senior Austin Wicker (Pinckney, Mich.-Pinckney) paced the Green and White with a personal best 10K time of 32:08, ranking 50th out of 198 runners. In total, EMU returns six of the seven racers who competed in last year's season finale, including sophomore and reigning Mid-American Conference freshman of the year Andy Payne (Worthington, Ohio-Thomas Worthington).
EMU will make at least one more trip to Terre Haute this year, as the course will host the 2019 Under Armour Pre-National Invitational Saturday, Oct. 19.
The men's 8k race is scheduled to begin at 9 a.m. Six nationally-ranked programs are among the 28-team field, with No. 1 Northern Arizona, No. 5 Iowa State, No. 7 Stanford, No. 9 Wisconsin, No. 16 Indiana, No. 24 Purdue all slated to participate. Also highlighting the field are MAC foe Buffalo and Big Ten Conference opponent Illinois.
