Elijah Minnie Named MAC West Co-Player of the Week

The redshirt senior averaged 23.5 points per game and led the Eagles to two wins
CLEVELAND, Ohio (EMUEagles.com) - Eastern Michigan University men's basketball redshirt senior forward Elijah Minnie (Pittsburgh, Pa.-Lincoln Park (Robert Morris)) was named the Mid-American Conference Co-West Division Player of the Week for his performances Jan. 7-13, the league office announced Monday, Jan. 14. Minnie, who shares the award with Northern Illinois University guard Eugene German, is the first Eagle to earn a this season.
In total, the forward averaged 23.5 points per game, while also pulling down 7.5 rebounds and swatting 2.5 shots per game. Minnie is averaging 22.7 points per game since MAC play began.
Minnie's offensive explosion helped carry EMU to a 2-0 week with a thrilling double-overtime win at Ball State, 84-82, and a record-setting drubbing of Kent State University, 95-61. Minnie shot 8-of-13 from the floor against the Cardinals, knocking down 6-of-8 from beyond the three-point line for a total of 25 points, including the game-tying three at the end of regulation. The redshirt senior followed that performance with an 8-of-14 night from the floor that included a 5-of-9 showing from beyond the arc.
Eastern Michigan hits the road for a pair of #MACtion games this week, taking on the University of Akron Tuesday, Jan. 14 at 7 p.m. before heading to the University at Buffalo Friday, Jan. 18 for a 7 p.m. tip, televised on ESPNU.
