Nick Rotola Named MAC West Player of the Week

Freshman second baseman notched a .647 batting average with 11 hits last week
CLEVELAND, Ohio (EMUEagles.com) – Eastern Michigan University freshman second baseman Nick Rotola (Wichita, Kan.-Word of Life Traditional School) was named Mid-American Conference West Division Player of the Week, the conference office announced Wednesday, May 15. It marked the first time in his career he has collected the weekly accolade.
Rotola had a outstanding week in the lineup for the Eagles, helping the EMU offense average 9.2 runs and 11 hits per game in five contests. He paced the attack with a .647 batting average (11-for-17) with nine runs scored and six RBI. He also had a pair of walks and a hit-by-pitch as he notched a team-best .667 on-base percentage on the week. In 16 chances, he produced a perfect fielding-percentage.
Against Michigan, May, 7, the Wichita, Kan. native was 2-for-3 with three runs scored plus a RBI-double as EMU defeated the Wolverines for the sixth consecutive time. The double was his first career extra base hit. After going 1-for-3 at Michigan State, Rotola resumed his torrid pace against the West Division leading Huskies of Northern Illinois. Versus the Huskies, he notched a .727 clip (8-of-11) with a .727 slugging percentage. He scored six runs and drove in five as EMU took two-of-three from NIU.
Before the week began, Rotola had just 13 hits in 71 at-bats for a .183 batting average with just three RBI. His average is now up to .273 with 14 runs scored and nine RBI.
EMU returns home to face off against the University of Toledo, May 16-18. The three-game Mid-American Conference set versus the Rockets will feature Thursday and Friday starts at 6 p.m. with Saturday's contest projected to start at 3 p.m. During the final homestand, Eastern Michigan will honor seniors Joe Battistelli (Allen Park, Mich.-Allen Park), Neil Butara (Euclid, Ohio-St. Ignatius), Taylor Dimmerling (Perrysburg, Ohio-Perrysburg), Brian Hill (Flagstaff, Ariz.-Sinagua-Phoenix College), Daniel Russell (Grandville, Mich.-Grandville), Jamie Simpson (Dowagiac, Mich.-Dowagiac-Western Michigan), Brian Valente (Macomb, Mich.-Eisenhower-Saginaw Valley State) and Austin Williams (Spring Hill, Kan.-Gardner Edgerton-Fort Scott C.C.).
