Eagles hold intrasquad April 7
YPSILANTI, Mich. — The Eastern Michigan University football team closed out 2007 spring drills with a Green-White Intrasquad game Saturday, April 7, in Rynearson Stadium.
Head Coach Jeff Genyk’s team battled the cold and snow during the final scrimmage with several outstanding performances turned in during the day.
The Eagles, looking for a replacement for All-American place-kicker Andrew Wellock (Canton, Ohio-Green), who was the starter for four straight seasons, may have found a solid replacement in redshirt freshman Sean Dutcher (Owosso, Mich.-Owosso). Despite the inclement weather, Dutcher booted field goals of 38 and 42 yards in his only two attempts.
The offense was also boosted by the play of quarterback Tyler Jones (Belleville, Mich.-Belleville) and the running of junior tailback Terrence Blevins (Detroit, Mich.-Denby). Jones ran for a three-yard touchdown while Blevins rushed for 55 yards on 10 carries. The only other offensive score was turned in by a pair of redshirt freshmen when reserve quarterback Ben Thayer (Kalamazoo, Mich.-Hackett Catholic Central) connected with wide receiver Michael Graham (Richmond, Va.-Monacan) for a 22-yard touchdown pass play.
The 2007 Eagles will open fall camp in August in preparation for the season opener Saturday, Sept. 1, at Pittsburgh.
