More Information.
TRAVERSE CITY, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) — Former Eastern Michigan University baseball pitcher Luke DeVenney (Des Moines, Iowa-Dowling Catholic) has signed a professional contract and will join the Traverse City Beach Bums of the Frontier League.
DeVenney had a splendid final season in the Green and White as EMU's top pitcher, as well as a two-way threat in the outfield for the baseball program. The righty led EMU with a 2.49 ERA in 94.0 innings pitched, including 56 strikeouts and a 6-2 overall record. His ERA ranked third in the conference and 59th in the nation, while his innings pitched were fourth-most in the MAC. In addition, his MAC-only ERA of 1.94 was second.
The Second Team All-MAC selection in 2018 started a conference-most tying 15 times on the mound, and in those 15 starts did not allow more than three earned runs. He was also one of just two pitchers in the MAC this season to not give up a home run (Min. 1.0IP/game), joining MAC Pitcher of the Year Joey Murray. Finally, DeVenney's 2.49 ERA at the end of the season was the lowest for an EMU starting pitcher since George Biddle finished with a 2.42 in 2007.
In the classroom, DeVenney collected 2018 Google Cloud Academic All-District® Baseball Team accolades from College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). He graduated Magna Cum Laude with a 3.85 GPA in April with his degree in finance.
The Beach Bums compete in the East Division of the Frontier League, which is an independent league not affiliated with Major League Baseball. They play their home games at Wuerfel Park in Traverse City, Mich.
