Crosby Named to Bednarik Award Watch List

The Bednarik Award is presented to the College Defensive Player of the Year
PHILADELPHIA, Pa. (EMUEagles.com) — Eastern Michigan University junior Maxx Crosby (Colleyville, Texas-Colleyville Heritage) has been named to the Bednarik Award Watch List, which is presented to the College Defensive Player of the Year, the Maxwell Football Club Announced Monday, July 16.
Crosby is one of only four Mid-American Conference players on the list, joining Ulysees Gilbert (Akron), Khalil Hodge (Buffalo) and Sutton Smith (Northern Illinois).
A preseason First Team All-MAC selection by Athlon Sports, Crosby enters the 2018 campaign on the heels of a breakout season. Playing in all 12 games for the Green and White, he led the Eagles defense in sacks with 11, tying the program record. He posted back-to-back multi-sack games, with three each against Central Michigan (Nov. 8) and Miami (Nov. 15). A 2017 First Team All-MAC selection, Crosby also forced four fumbles and recorded two recoveries.
The Bednarik Award has been presented to the College Defensive Player of the Year since 1995. Chuck Bednarik, former standout at Penn and with the Philadelphia Eagles, is a member of both the College Football Hall of Fame's Class of '69 and the NFL Hall of Fame's Class of '67.
The semifinalists for the Bednarik Award will be announced Oct. 29, 2018, while the three finalist will be unveiled Nov. 19, 2018. The winner of the 24th Chuck Bednarik Award will be announced as part of the Home Depot College Football Awards Show held on December 6, 2018. The formal presentations of these awards will be made at the Maxwell Football Club Awards Gala hosted by Tropicana Hotel & Casino Atlantic City on March 8, 2019.
