YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) - With the regular season in the books, the Eastern Michigan University women's track and field team turns its attention toward the Mid-American Conference Championships, which will be held on the campus of the University at Buffalo Thursday-Saturday, May 10-12. The Eagles have the opportunity to bring home their second outdoor title in three years, having most recently won the championship in the 2016 season.

The 2016 title serves as the Green and White's conference-leading 12th team championship, with Akron and Kent State tying for second-most in the MAC with seven apiece.

Eastern missed out on winning in back-to-back years after placing second behind the Zips by just four points in last season's meet, which ties for the fifth-closest margin of victory in MAC Outdoor Championship history.

This year, the Eagles head into the championship weekend with a number of student-athletes ranking near the top of the conference for their respective events. Altogether, EMU has 12 performances that rank within the top-three, including five that serve as the top marks in the league.

Redshirt senior Alsu Bogdanova (Kazan, Russia-Lyceum #83) owns two of Eastern's top performances, as the Kazan, Russia native holds the top spot in the 3000m steeplechase (10:19.54) and 5000m (16:14.14). Senior Natalie Cizmas (Clinton Twp., Mich.-Chippewa Valley) also owns a top time of her own, after boasting a school-record 1500m time of 4:16.83 at the Raleigh Relays, March 30. EMU's other top marks come from the 400 and 1600 relay teams, with the 400 relay team's time of 44.99 also ranking as the all-time fastest mark in EMU history. Additionally, the 1600 relay time of 3:37.31 comes in at third all-time in the EMU outdoor record book.

Senior Jasmine Jones (Greensburg, Pa.-Hempfield Area) has consistently been a dominating force in sprints ever since first donning the Green and White. Currently, Jones holds the second-fastest times in the 100m (11.62), 200m (23.50), and 400m (53.96). Joining her in the 100m rankings is junior Jessica Harris (Slidell, La.-Slidell), who sits just behind Jones at third with a time of 11.64.

Redshirt senior Dace Dreimane (Ventspils, Latvia-Ventspils Gymnasium No. 1) is the owner of EMU's lone top-three ranking in the field events, with her triple jump season-high of 12.85m coming it at second in the conference.

The action-packed weekend begins Thursday with the women's hammer throw and men's multi events starting at 10 a.m., with running events scheduled to start at 4:30 p.m. Day two of the championships commence at 10:30 a.m. with the men's decathlon 110m hurdles, while the final day begins at 11 a.m. with the women's discus, women's high jump, and the men's triple jump all beginning at 11 a.m. Fans can follow the MAC Championships via live results by clicking here, or by following the link located on the schedule page of EMUEagles.com.
