EMU Finishes Regular Season at Toledo Invitational

TOLEDO, Ohio (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University men's track and field team closed out the regular season at the Toledo Invitational Friday, May 4 in Toledo, Ohio.

The weekend consisted of eight event titles and five personal-records set.

Junior Zach Harkey (Huron, Ohio-Huron) posted yet another personal-best in the hammer throw. After notching a personal-record distance of 57.22m in last week's Hillsdale Gina Relays, Harkey bested that toss with a distance of 61.69m, which moved him up to third all-time in program history. The Huron, Ohio native also marked a personal-best in the shot put, boasting a distance of 14.80m to place two spots behind the event winner and teammate, senior Mike Hierholzer (Medina, Ohio-Medina), who notched a distance of 15.77.

Redshirt sophomore Taige Bryant (Edmond, Okla.-Edmond Memorial) also had an impressive showing in the field events, as he came away with a big PR in the discus. Bryant reached a distance of 50.95m to place first in the event, simultaneously moving up to fifth all-time in the EMU record book.

Altogether, Eastern placed first in the 200m, 800m, 4x100 relay, long jump, triple jump, pole vault, discus, and shot put.

With that, the outdoor regular season comes to a close. Next weekend, Thursday-Saturday, May 10-12, the Eagles will get their postseason started at the Mid-American Conference Championships, held in Buffalo, N.Y.
