Cizmas Advances to 1500m Quarterfinal in First Day of NCAA East Regionals

TAMPA, Fla. (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University women's track and field team had two representatives compete during the first day of the NCAA East Regionals Thursday, May 24, on the campus of the University of South Florida in Tampa, Fla.
Senior Natalie Cizmas (Clinton Twp., Mich.-Chippewa Valley) advanced to the 1500m quarterfinal after finishing with a time of 4:17.94. That time ranked 10th overall out of 48 runners, and also earned her a third-place finish in her respective heat. The quarterfinal will take place Saturday at 1:15 p.m.
The second Eagle to compete in today's action was senior Jasmine Jones (Greensburg, Pa.-Hempfield Area). Jones took part in the 400m, where she placed 40th with a time of 54.41. Although she missed out on advancing to the next round, Jones still has a chance to qualify to the NCAA Championships in the 200m. The first round of the 200m will take place tomorrow at 3:25 p.m., with the quarterfinals scheduled for Saturday at 2:20 p.m.
Along with the first round of the 200m, tomorrow will see senior Janina Pollatz (Grand Rapids, Mich.-Grand Rapids Christian) compete in the pole vault at 9:30 a.m. and redshirt senior Alsu Bogdanova (Kazan, Russia-Lyceum #83) take part in the 3000m steeplechase at 8:40 p.m.
