– The Eastern Michigan University men's track and field team had three members compete in the first day of the NCAA East Regionals Thursday, May 24, on the campus of the University of South Florida in Tampa, Fla.

Sophomore Colin Etchen (Edgerton, Ohio-Edgerton) competed in the regional meet for the first time in his career, and was just one-of-six total sophomores in the pool of around 40 pole vaulters. Etchen vaulted to a height of 5.00m to finish 14 spots higher than he was seeded at, placing 32nd overall. Although he exceeded his seeding, Etchen ultimately missed out on the chance to advance to the NCAA Championship.

Rounding out the first day of competition was redshirt senior Nick Raymond (Erie, Mich.-Mason), who raced in the 10,000m. Raymond placed 44th with an end time of 32:00.88. Unfortunately, as he landed outside of the top-12 his season, and incredible career, has come to a close.

Action will pick back up tomorrow with junior Devonte Findlay (Lauderhill, Fla.-Blanche Ely) and redshirt senior Hlynur Andresson (Vestmannaeyjar, Iceland-Mountain Ridge) competing in the 110m hurdles and 3000m steeplechase. The 110m hurdles will begin at noon while the steeplechase is scheduled to begin at 8 p.m.
