Valentin is the first gymnast to earn the honor in program history

YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) — Eastern Michigan University senior gymnast Kendall Valentin (Holmdel, N.J.-Holmdel) was named to the Google Cloud Academic All-District® Team in District Five by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Thursday, May 17.
The Google Cloud Academic All-District® At-Large Team is comprised of the best student athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom. At-large includes the sports of golf, tennis, gymnastics, swimming, diving, ice hockey, rowing, field hockey, water polo, skiing, lacrosse, and beach volleyball.
Valentin is believed to be the first EMU gymnast to earn the honor in program history. Earning the academic distinction alongside junior swimmer Delaney Duncan, EMU is the only school in the fifth district, and one of just eight schools nationally, with multiple at-large selections. EMU joins Harvard, West Virginia, Austin Peay, Alabama, Florida, Minnesota, and Stanford with two-or-more awardwinners.
As one of EMU's most consistent performers throughout her entire career representing the Green and White, Valentin continued her dominance in 2018. The senior qualified for the NCAA Regional Championship on bars with an RQS of 9.865, while also serving as an alternate on beam with an RQS of 9.855. Throughout the season, Valentin produced scores of 9.75-or-better on bars in nine of the 11 meets she competed in, earned a score of 9.825-or-greater seven times in the event, and tallied a 9.875-or-better on beam and bars a total of eight times. Furthermore, the Holmdel, N.J. native tied her impressive personal-record of 9.95 on bars, March 11, which ties the program record and makes her the only Eagle to ever reach the mark twice. A senior biology student, Valentin boasts an impressive 3.93 GPA.
