Three Eagles Named to Academic All-MAC Women's Tennis Team

Andrea Martinovska is one of just seven players to earn the honor three times
CLEVELAND, Ohio (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University women's tennis team saw three Eagles named to the Academic All-Mid-American Conference squad the league office announced Friday, May 11. Alejandra Barcelo Almoyna (Alicante, Spain-IES Figueras Racheco) and Marie Mayerova (Krmelin, Czech Republic) each earned distinction for the second time in their careers, while Andrea Martinovska (Plzn, Czech Republic) garnered the honor for the third consecutive season.
The Academic All-MAC honor is for a student-athlete who has excelled in athletics and academics. To qualify, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.20 cumulative GPA and have participated in at least 50 percent of the contests for that particular sport. First-year students and junior college transfers in their first year of residence are not eligible for the award.
Almoyna, a senior with a 3.40 GPA, graduated with a degree in Entrepreneurship. The Spaniard posted a sparkling 18-3 record during dual play on the season, including a perfect 8-0 in MAC play. She finished second on the team in dual and overall wins, and led the team with league victories. She also added eight wins on the doubles side.
Mayernova earned her second Academic All-MAC distinction as a junior. She is majoring in Criminology and owns a 3.42 grade point average. The Czech Republic native went 17-13 overall and 15-8 in dual play on the season, playing primarily at No. 2 singles. She also had 15 wins on the doubles court on the year.
An International Affairs graduate, Martinovska, received her third All-MAC team recognition with a 3.68 grade point average. Martinovska went 10-17 overall this season in singles play, and went 10-12 in dual play. As for double, Martinovska won 13 matches between partners Mayerova and Ani Gogvadze (Tbilisi, Georgia-Khikhani).
