EAST LANSING, Mich. (EMUEagles.com)
– The Eastern Michigan University women's track and field team rounded out the Spartan Invitational in East Lansing, Mich., Saturday, April 7, with a pair of event titles to go along with seven top-three placements.

Senior Tifani Byrd (Toms River, N.J.-Toms River North) and freshman Catherine Mittiga (South Bend, Ind.-John Adams) each brought home the title in their respective events, with Byrd running a time of 15.34 in the 100m hurdles, and Mittiga reaching a distance of 5.41m in the long jump. In addition to first place, Mittiga's distance also serves as one-of-two personal-records set in today's action.

Sophomore Kristine Bourg (Shorewood, Ill.-Joliet West) also marked a career-best in the javelin, throwing to a distance of 40.18m to take third place. That performance puts her just outside of the top-five in the Mid-American Conference javelin rankings for this season.

Senior Dace Dreimane (Ventspils, Latvia-Ventspila Gymnasium No. 1) had another strong outing in the high jump, this time marking a season-best height of 1.65m to place second. The Latvia native is now tied for fourth in the conference for high jump, while also ranking second in the triple jump.

Altogether, EMU had six Eagles competing in events for the first time, primarily using this meet as a means to give underclassmen more experience competing at the collegiate level, as well as expanding on the skill set of certain student-athletes.

The Eagles have a quick turnaround before competing in the Tennessee Relays in Knoxville, Tenn., which will span from Thursday-Saturday, April 12-14.
