CLEVELAND, Ohio (EMUEagles.com) -- The Mid-American Conference announced its 2018 women's tennis all-conference team Thursday, April 26, and Eastern Michigan University tennis senior standout Ani Gogvadze (Tbilisi, Georgia-Khikhani) was named first team for her outstanding senior season.
Gogvadze played the entire campaign as the Eagles' No. 1 singles player, putting together a stunning 20-2 record in the spring season. The Tbilisi, Georgia native finished the regular season on a three-match win streak, went 6-2 in MAC play, and won her first 16 matches of the season.
With the honor, Gogvadze becomes the first Eagle to earn a spot on the All-MAC First Team since Klara Supejova in 2015. It is the second time in her career that Gogvadze has been named to a MAC postseason team, earning a second team nod as a freshman in 2015.
Eastern has qualified for the MAC Tennis Championships for the first time since 2015, and will kick off the tournament at Ball State University Friday, April 27, with a 10 a.m. matchup against No. 4 seed Bowling Green. The winner of the first round match will take on No. 1 seed Buffalo Saturday, April 28 at 10 a.m. All matches will be available to watch on ESPN+.
