Eastern Puts Lid on Tennessee Relays

The 1600m relay and sprint medley relay sqauds both notched second-place finishes

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University men's track and field team finished out the Tennessee Relays with strong performances in the 1600 relay and sprint medley relay Saturday, April 14, in Knoxville, Tenn.
The 1600 relay squad of redshirt senior Tyler Brown (Findlay, Ohio-Findlay), junior Tyler Underwood (Clinton, Mich.-Clinton), sophomore Tyler Johnson (Dayton, Ohio-Stivers School for the Arts), and freshman Owen Richardson (Basingstoke, England) ran to a blistering time of 3:07.38 to place second in the event. Additionally, that time also serves as the sixth best in EMU laurels.
The sprint medley relay team also notched a second-place finish, as junior Frank Douglas (Mansfield, Ohio-Madison Comprehensive), and sophomores Devonte Findlay (Lauderhill, Fla.-Blanche Ely), Dan Kuhn (Erie, Pa.-Harbor Creek), and sophomore Joshuwa Holloman (Auburn Hills, Mich.-Avondale) finished with a time of 3:31.11.
Former student-athlete and EMU great, Donald Scott, took first in the triple jump with a mark of 17.31, breaking the meet record.
The lone personal-record set in today's action came courtesy of sophomore Jannik Schmitt (Plymouth, Mich.-Salem), who marked a distance of 48.55m in the discus, finishing one spot behind teammate junior Zach Harkey (Huron, Ohio-Huron), who placed 12th with a throw of 49.70.
Eastern returns to action Friday-Saturday, April 20-21, as they send representatives to the Al Owens Classic in Allendale, Mich., as well as the Virginia Challenge in Charlottesville, Va.
