YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) - The Eastern Michigan University men's track and field team will be pitted against a strong pool of competition, including some of the nation's top teams, at the Tennessee Relays Thursday-Saturday, April 12-14, in Knoxville, Tenn.
Included in this weekend's competition are No. 9 Mississippi State, No. 13 Virginia Tech, No. 16 South Carolina, and No. 21 Ohio State.
In last season's relays, EMU set 15 personal-records in day two, including a mark that surpassed Eastern's all-time record in the javelin. Then-sophomore Derek Ziegenfuss (Allentown, Pa.-Parkland) threw to a monstorous distance of 67.76m, placing second in the meet. Since then, Ziegenfuss has reached a new milestone in the javelin, setting another program-record of 68.89m, which still stands today.
Junior Cameron Hart (Columbus, Ohio-Bishop Hartley) also had a fantastic individual performance, having been responsible for two of the many personal records set that weekend. Hart set then-personal records in both events he participated in, marking a distance of 7.21m in the long jump, before reaching a height of 2.07m in the high jump. Additionally, his high jump warranted a second-place finish, tying him with Ziegenfuss as the two highest placements captured by an Eagle throughout the meet.
This weekend's action begins Thursday starting at 10 a.m. with multi events. Friday's slate also starts off with multis at 10 a.m., before turning over to running events at 2:45 p.m. and field events at 3 p.m. The meet will conclude Saturday, with field events commencing at 10 a.m. and running events beginning at noon.
