The junior became just the third EMU player to reach the 1,000 point and rebound milestone
BOSTON (EMUEagles.com) – Eastern Michigan University men's basketball player James Thompson IV (Baton Rouge, La.-Parkview Baptist) was named to the 2017-18 Lou Henson All-American Team as announced by CollegeInsider.com, Wednesday, March 29.
Thompson is now eligible for the Lou Henson National Player of the Year Award which is presented annually to the nation's top Division I mid-major player and will be announced April 2 in San Antonio, home of the men's NCAA Basketball Championship.
The Baton Rouge, La. native turned in one of the best individual seasons a junior has ever produced for EMU, averaging a double-double of 14.5 points and 11.2 rebounds per game. His 507 points this season were 10th-most in a season for a junior, while his 393 rebounds were 3rd-best in a single season in program history.
Thompson surpassed the 1,000 point and rebound threshold during his third year in the Green and White, becoming just the third Eastern Michigan player to do so, and now sits second all-time in career rebounds with 1,103, trailing Kennedy McIntosh by 323 caroms. Thompson led the Mid-American Conference in double-doubles (20), rebounds per game (11.2), field goal percentage (67.2), total blocks (67), offensive rebounds per game (4.1), and defensive rebounds per game (7.1).
Lou Henson coached 41 years and when he left the game in 2005 he was sixth all-time in career Division I wins with 779. He is the winningest coach at both Illinois and New Mexico State, and is one of only 12 coaches in the history of the game to take two schools to the Final Four.
