The sophomore earned the honor for the first time in her career
CLEVELAND, Ohio (EMUEagles.com) — Eastern Michigan University sophomore guard Nailah Mitchell (Shaker Heights, Ohio-Shaker Heights) of the EMU women's basketball team was named to the All-Mid-American Conference Academic team the league office announced Thursday, March 29. It is the first time Mitchell has earned the honor in her career.
The Academic All-MAC honor is for a student-athlete who has excelled in athletics and academics. To qualify, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.20 cumulative grade point average and have participated in at least 50 percent of the contests for that particular sport. First-year students and junior college transfers in their first year of residence are not eligible for the award.
A sport management major, Mitchell appeared in 18 games for the Eagles in her second season in Ypsilanti. The Shaker Heights, Ohio native was part of an Eagle squad that made the seventh-most field goals (810) and scored the ninth-most points (2,150) in EMU single season history.
EMU's season came to a close in the MAC Tournament Quarterfinals in Cleveland, Ohio, March 7, where the ninth-seeded Green and White came up short, 67-64, against the top-seeded and eventual tournament champion Chippewas of Central Michigan University.
