CLEVELAND, Ohio (EMUEagles.com) - Junior swimmer Delaney Duncan (Galesburg, Ill.-Galesburg) of the Eastern Michigan University women's swimming and diving team earned Mid-American Conference Scholar Athlete of the Week for the period ending March 18, the league announce Wednesday, March 21. This award was earned for her sensational showing at the 2018 NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships, which was held March 14-17, in Columbus, Ohio.
Duncan, who is the only Eagle in program history to be a three-time national qualifier, concluded her season as a two-time All-American for her dominating performances in the 100 and 200 breaststroke. Starting the meet in the 100 breast, Duncan finished with a fourth-place finish, clocking a new school and MAC record time of 58.36. Her performance, earning her All-American accolades, was the highest finish by a swimmer in program history.
On Saturday, the Galesburg, Ill. native entered the morning seeded 44th in the 200 breast. Dropping over two full seconds off her seeded time, Duncan not only won her heat, but qualified for the consolation final with a time of 2:08.91, earning herself All-American Honorable Mention status. In the evening session, Duncan shaved another one-tenth of a second off her prelims time to clock in at 2:08.80, good for a 14th-place finish and the fastest time in EMU's laurels.
The NCAA Championships marked the end of the season for the Eagles, who finished the 2017-18 campaign with an 8-1 record in duals, including an unblemished Mid-American Conference record of 4-0.
