Eastern's Season Ends in CIT Second Round at Sam Houston State, 69-62

Freshman Kevin McAdoo scored a career-best 23 points in the season finale
HUNTSVILLE, Texas (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University men's basketball team struggled out of the gate and never recovered against Sam Houston State University in the second round of the CollegeInsider.com Tournament (CIT) Monday, March 19, falling 69-62 at the Johnson Coliseum.
The Eagles (22-13, 11-7 MAC) trailed by as many as 18 points in the first half and by 12 at the halftime break, but were able to cut the Bearkats' (20-14, 12-6 Southland) lead down and tie the game on a Jordan Nobles (Canton, Mich.-Canton) corner three with just under two minutes to go at 62-62. Unfortunately for EMU, SHSU went on a 7-0 run in the final 1:50, holding the Green and White scoreless along the way.
Freshman Kevin McAdoo (West Bloomfield, Mich.-West Bloomfield) led the way for Eastern with a career-high 23-point effort. Nobles knocked down four threes for a season-high 12 points, while fellow redshirt junior Paul Jackson (Stone Mountain, Ga.-Martin Luther King Jr. (Eastern Kentucky)) scored all 12 of his points in the second half. Junior James Thompson IV (Baton Rouge, La.-Parkview Baptist) led all players with 13 rebounds.
Sam Houston State dictated play throughout the game's entirety, winning the rebounding battle 45-36, outscoring Eastern in the paint 34-12, and holding the Eagles to 37-percent (14-of-38) from the floor for the game. EMU committed 11 turnovers and forced SHSU into 10, while shooting just 33-percent (4-of-12) from the charity stripe compared to Sam Houston's 77-percent (10-of-13).
In his final game for the Green and White, senior Tim Bond (Baltimore, Md.-City College) finished with three points, seven rebounds, three assists, one block, and one steal. The Baltimore, Md. native will go down as one of the best defenders in Eastern Michigan history, finishing his final year with a program-record 85 steals and the EMU career-record of 238. He also goes down as the only player in Eastern laurels to have the combination of 1,000+ points (1,056), 475+ rebounds (490), 350+ assists, (373), 200+ steals (238), and 100+ blocks (106).
Eastern's 22 wins on the season ties it with the fourth-most in program history for a single season. The Eagles also set the record for block average in a season at 6.4, and finished with the second-most blocks in a season with 218. EMU's 298 steals is the fifth-most for a single season in program history, and its average of 8.8 is the third-most all time.
