Eastern was limited to just four hits through the two games

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (EMUEagles.com) - The Eastern Michigan University softball team opened the Tiger Classic by dropping a pair of non-conference games Saturday, March 17, at the Tigers Softball Complex in Memphis, Tenn. The Eagles fell to the University of South Dakota, 6-0, before being blanked by SIU Edwardsville, 8-0, through six innings.

Game #1: Eastern Michigan 0, South Dakota 6

Senior Trisha Trujillo (Whittier, Calif.-California) earned the starting nod and was ultimately sacked with the loss, moving her to 2-6 on the season, as a first-inning grand slam ended her day short. Getting the call for relief, freshman Kiara Hurley (Maumee, Ohio-Maumee) was a workhorse through a season-high 5.1 innings of work, giving up seven hits, and striking out one.

The Eagles struggled to connect at the plate as a season-high seven strikeouts kept Eastern's offense at bay. The Green and White mustered a total three hits, as juniors Olivia Logan (Riverview, Mich.-Riverview), Sam Isaly (Dublin, Ohio-Dublinn Coffman), and freshman Lauren Holdsworth (Howell, Mich.-Ladywood) all registered one hit apiece.

Game #2: Eastern Michigan 0, SIU-Edwardsville 8

In the circle, junior Nicolle Miranda (Wilmington, Calif.-Port of Los Angeles) went 4.0 innings, while allowing seven runs runs on eight hits in the loss. Miranda (2-9) is now just 10 strikeouts away from reaching the 200 career strikeout milestone as she struck out four Cougars on the day. In the fifth frame, Hurley was called in from the bullpen for her second relief appearance of the day. The Maumee, Ohio native gave up three hits through two innings of work.

The Green and White continued to have fits at the plate as Isaly notched Eastern's lone hit of the night with a single up the middle during the fifth frame.

Eastern Michigan returns to the field for a Sunday morning tilt against Tennessee Tech, March 18. First pitch is scheduled for 11:15 a.m.
