Eagles Hit Road to Texas for CIT Second Round

Eastern will match up with Sam Houston State Monday, March 19
YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) — The Eastern Michigan University men's basketball team will continue its trek to the CollegeInsider.com Tournament (CIT) Championship on the road Monday, March 19. The Eagles will take on Sam Houston State in Huntsville, Texas, at 7:30 p.m.
EMU (22-12, 11-7 MAC) won its opening round game of the CIT over Niagara in convincing fashion, taking down the Purple Eagles 83-65 at the Convocation Center Wednesday, March 14. SHSU (19-14, 12-6 Southland) will be playing its first game in the CIT after receiving a bye in the opening round of the tournament.
In their game against Niagara, the Eagles had multiple individuals put up record numbers. Redshirt junior Elijah Minnie (Pittsburgh, Pa.-Lincoln Park (Robert Morris)) tossed in a career-high 29 points, tying him with Derrick Dial for the second-most points in an EMU postseason game. Junior James Thompson IV (Baton Rouge, La.-Parkview Baptist) tied the Theron Wilson and Marcus Kennedy's postseason record for rebounds in a game with 16, while also registering his 20th double-double of the season. Finally, senior Tim Bond (Baltimore, Md.-City College) dished out eight assists, the second-most assists in a postseason game for EMU, while also recording his second career double-double of 11 points and 12 rebounds.
Monday's game is scheduled to be broadcast on 89.1 WEMU as well as the CBS Digital Network.
This is the the second appearance in the CIT and the first since the 2013-14 campaign for Eastern Michigan, when the Eagles defeated Norfolk State University at home, 58-54, before coming up short at Columbia University, 69-56. It is also the first postseason opportunity for EMU in three years, when the Green and White took part in the 2015 College Basketball Invitational (CBI).
