Bleacher Report released the top-20 defensive players in the country
Complete List
YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) - Eastern Michigan University men's basketball senior forward Karrington Ward (Lockport, Ill.-Lockport Township (Moraine Valley C.C.)) was named the 15th-best defensive player in the country according to BleacherReport.com.
Last season, Ward was not only an offensive threat for EMU by leading the team in scoring, but his defensive play stood out for EMU as well. The Lockport, Ill. native averaged 1.4 steals per game along with 0.7 blocks per contest. Those 1.4 steals per game ranked 13th in the Mid-American Conferences, while he was one-of-three Eagles in 2014 to accumulate 25-or-more blocks. In addition to his off the ball defending, the six-foot-seven inch forward led the squad in rebounding at 6.4 per contest. On the defensive glass, Ward posted 5.1 rebounds per game.
Ward is one-of-two MAC student-athletes named to the list. The other happens to be Ward's high school teammate, Richaun Holmes, who now competes for Bowling Green.
The Eagles begin the 2014-15 campaign, Nov. 14. Eastern is set to start the year against Saint Francis (Ill.) at 2:30 p.m.
