Ejigu and Hughes named captains in days leading up to 2012 opener

YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) – Eastern Michigan men's cross country Head Coach John Goodridge announced Monday afternoon the selection of the captains for the 2012 season.  Seniors Terefe Ejigu (Mount Cook, Wellington / Wellington College (New Zealand)) and James Hughes (Manchester, Mich. / Manchester) have been named senior captains in the days leading up to the season opening meet Friday.

"I am confident that Terefe and James will provide excellent senior leadership for the 2012 team" said Goodridge.

Ejigu returns as the Eagles top finisher from a season ago, taking second in the 2011 MAC Championships.  Ejigu looks to close out his Eagles cross country career in search of a third MAC team championship and second individual championship.  The Eagles returning Most Outstanding Performer will also be looking to earn All-MAC honors for the fourth time in his career.

Hughes returns for his senior campaign after competing in three races in 2011.  Hughes took ninth at the 2011 EMU Fall classic and 43rd to help the Eagles to their 16th MAC Championship.

The Eagles will open up their Mid-American Conference championship defense Friday, September 14 at the Auto Owners Spartan Invitational at 12:35 PM in East Lansing, Mich.
