Softball Closes Out Regular Season With 10-2 Loss

EMU falls in final regular season game at CMU
MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) — The Eastern Michigan University softball team closed out the 2012 season with a 10-2 loss in six innings to Central Michigan University this afternoon, May 6, at Margo Jonker Stadium in Mount Pleasant, Mich.
EMU was outhit 13-to-6 this afternoon, with McKenna Russ driving in one of the Eagles' two on a solo homerun, and Kaylee Tolliver driving in the second with her RBI-single in the fifth.
Jenna Ignowski (11-11) threw 3.1 innings in the loss, allowing three earned runs on seven hits. Lindsay Rich threw 1.1 innings and allowed five runs before handing over duties to Lauren Wells who closed out the remaining inning of play.
The Eagles struck first on Russ' longball in the opening inning of the game to give her team an early 1-0 lead, but the home team responded with three runs in the bottom half of the frame to take a 3-1 advantage.
Tollivers' RBI-single in the fifth innings brought the Eagles to within one, but the Chippewas would go on to score seven unanswered to win the contest 10-2 in six innings.
The Eagles end the year 21-36 overall and 7-16 in Mid-American Conference games, while CMU closes out the regular season at 26-25 (11-10 MAC).
