Ejigu Earns NCAA Championship Bid in 5,000-Meter Run

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University men's track and field team had its final pair of athletes compete in the 2012 NCAA East Preliminary Round Saturday, May 26. Joe Tesner competed in the pole vault, while Terefe Ejigu ran in the 5,000-meter run. The NCAA East Preliminary Round was held at Hodges Stadium at the University of North Florida.
Tesner finished 38th in the pole vault with a leap of 15-feet and 11.75-inches which did not qualify him to go to the national meet held in Des Moines, Iowa.
Ejigu took third in the 5,000-meter run at Hodges Stadium, earning him a place in the event at Drake University in the finals. The Wellington, New Zeeland native completed the distance in 14:01.88.
"Both Donald Scott and Terefe Ejigu learned valuable lessons about themselves in qualifying for the National Championships. I am very happy for them and certainly very proud,” said head coach John Goodridge.
Scott will compete in the triple jump, while Ejigu will run the 5,000-meter for the Eagles at the 2012 NCAA Championships at Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa, June 6-9.
