Three Eagles Garner All-MAC Accolades

Brent Ohrman and Sam Ott make All-MAC first team while Ben Magsig grabs second team honors

AVON, Ohio (EMUEagles.com) – Eastern Michigan University senior Brent Ohrman (Adrian, Mich.-Adrian) and redshirt sophomore Sam Ott (Canton, Mich.-Salem) were named to the All-Mid-American Conference first team while Ben Magsig (Okemos, Mich.-Okemos-Lansing C.C.) made second team All-MAC, the league office announced at the annual MAC Tournament awards ceremony at All-Pro Freight Stadium, May 22. It is only the second time since 2007 that EMU has put multiple players on the All-MAC first team.
Kent State University placed a league-high eight players on the All-MAC squads including three on the All-MAC first team. Kent State's David Starn was named MAC Pitcher of the Year alongside skipper Scott Stricklin who was chosen as Coach of the Year. In addition, Miami outfielder Matt Honchel was named the MAC's Freshman of the Year.
Ohrman, who was a second team selection in 2011, posted a team-best .349 batting average with 48 runs scored, 38 RBI and five triples. The Adrian, Mich. native completed a career-best 23-game hitting streak which extended from March 16-April 26 and also posted a stretch of 26 games in which he reached base safely. With 53 career stolen bases including 21 this season, he is12th all-time at EMU. He is also 11th with 39 career doubles, eighth in runs scored with 148, third in at-bats with 756, and fourth in hits with 231.
Ott started all 53 contests for the Green and White, notching 14 doubles, three triples, 32 RBI and 56 runs scored to go along with a .301 batting average. In 27 MAC contests, Ott is second on the team with a .337 batting average with eight doubles, 17 RBI and a .467 on-base percentage which ranks fourth among all MAC players.
Magsig posted a .297 batting average with 41 runs scored, 29 RBI and 12 doubles and four home runs. His team-best 48 walks this season have increased his career total to 115 and have earned him a fifth place on the EMU all-time list in that category. The record for walks in a career is held by EMU great Glenn Gulliver, who received 140 free passes from 1973-76. Additionally, Magsig's 32-game on-base streak (March 11-May 12) was the best in his stellar three-year career and was the longest such stretch for an EMU player since Gulliver reached in 42 consecutive games in 2009.
The sixth-seeded Eagles will take on the third-seeded Central Michigan University Chippewas in the opening game of the 2012 MAC Tournament Wednesday, May 23, at All-Pro Freight Stadium. First pitch is slated for 12:30 p.m.
Live audio will be provided with the voice of the Eagles, Chad Bush, on play-by-play duty with Greg Steiner and Chris Puzzuoli serving as analysts. The pre-game show will begin at 12:15 p.m.
