The decision to resign is effective Friday, April 6, 2012

YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) — Eastern Michigan University Head Women's Basketball Coach AnnMarie Gilbert has announced her decision to resign, effective Friday, April 6, 2012.

“I would like to thank AnnMarie for the success she has brought the program,” said Dr. Derrick Gragg, Director of Intercollegiate Athletics. “AnnMarie has worked hard to help our student athletes succeed, and I wish her well in her future endeavors.”

Eastern Michigan's women's basketball team earned an invitation to the NCAA Tournament this year – the result of winning the MAC Championship and a record of 23-9. Gilbert's overall record since joining Eastern in 2007-08 is 94-64.

Gragg said the search for a new coach would begin immediately.

Before joining Eastern, Gilbert spent five years as an assistant women's basketball coach at Michigan State University. She previously served as the head women's basketball coach at Oberlin College for eight years.

An NCAA investigation into the women's basketball program is still ongoing. In September 2010, EMU voluntarily self-reported violations following an internal investigation. For details of the investigation as well as the self-imposed penalties, visit http://www.emich.edu/ncaa_violations/.
