YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University softball team dropped their final home game of the 2012 campaign Sunday, April 29, as the Ohio University Bobcats used a fourth inning grand slam to take down the Eagles on their Senior Day, 5-4. The Eagles fell to 21-30 on the season and 7-13 in MAC competition, while the Bobcats moved to 23-26 for the 2012 campaign and 10-8 in MAC games.

Jenna Ignowski (Niles, Mich.-Niles) was the starter for EMU going three innings, allowing four runs on three hits and fell to 11-9 on the year. Lauren Wells (Lowell, Ind.-Lowell) came on in relief going the final four innings for the Eagles, allowing one unearned run, while striking out five.

Kaylin Clarke got the start for Ohio, going the first 2.2 innings before giving way to Lauren McClary. Clarke re-entered the game to pitch with the bases loaded and no outs in the seventh. McClary was able to pick up the win for the Bobcats, moving her to 15-15 on the season, while Clarke earned her second save of the season. Clarke allowed five hits and three runs, one earned over 3.2 innings, while McClary went 3.1 innings and surrendered just one run and one hit, but walked three.

Nellie Coquillard (Niles, Mich.-Niles) had a 2-for-3 performance with an RBI and a run scored, while Jessica Richards  (Canton, Ohio-Jackson) had a base knock, two runs scored and a pair of stolen bases. Katy Blaharski (Carleton, Mich.-Airport), McKenna Russ (North Canton, Ohio-Hoover) and Amanda Stanton (Homer Glen, Ill.-Lockport Township) each recorded a hit in the game as well for EMU.

The Green and White scored its first three runs in the third. Richards hit a one-out single and stole second to get into scoring position. Richards later advanced to third on a groundout by Blaharski and scored on a single by Coquillard. Russ singled following Coquillard, and the duo moved up on a wild pitch to get runners at second and third. Both later came around to score on a throwing miscue by the Bobcats' second baseman, making it 3-0 in favor of the Eagles.

Ohio return-fired in the top of the fourth when Lauren Gellerman slugged a grand slam, her 10th big fly of the season, making it 4-3 with the Bobcats leading. Brooke Morgart led the fourth off with a double and Ignowski loaded the bases after walking a batter and hitting another, setting the table for Gellerman's long ball.

The Bobcats added an insurance run in the sixth when the Eagles committed a fielding error on a pop-up in the infield, scoring Raven King from second to make it 5-3.

Eastern did not go quietly in the seventh as they loaded the bases with no outs. Russ came through with a sacrifice fly to center scoring Richards from third to bring EMU within one, 5-4. Clarke, however, was able to strike out back-to-back batters to keep the lead intact.

The Eagles will travel to Michigan Tuesday, May 1, to take on the Wolverines at 7 p.m. and then travel to Notre Dame to face off with the Fighting Irish, Wednesday, May 2 at 6 p.m. before their final Mid-American Conference series of the season at Central Michigan, May 5-6.
