Softball Comes Up Short At Kent State

Eagles fall to 13-18 (2-1 MAC)

KENT, Ohio (EMUEagles.com) — The Eastern Michigan University softball team came out on the losing end of a 6-1 affair with Mid-American Conference opponent Kent State University this afternoon, March 31, at the Diamond at Dix in Kent, Ohio. With the loss, the Eagles fall to 13-18 (2-1 MAC) on the year, while the Golden Flashes improve to 16-15 overall with a 3-0 mark in MAC games.
The Eagles offense managed to record just three hits in the contest, while defensively they committed three errors that led to two KSU unearned runs.
Amanda Herron was responsible for the Eagles lone run in the ballgame with her solo homerun in the second, while Sarah Gerber and Jessica Richards tallied one hit apiece.
Jenna Ignowski was issued the loss and falls to 8-5 on the year. Ignowski lasted 2.2 innings in the circle, giving up three earned on seven hits while striking out one.
Lindsay Rich closed out the remaining 3.1 innings for the Eagles, striking out two while allowing one run on three hits.
The Green and White scored first with its lone run of the contest in the second inning of play. Herron blasted a two-out shot to give her squad a 1-0 lead, but the Golden Flashes would tie it up in the bottom half of the frame as KSU's Lauren Mokler singled to left to wave around a runner from second base.
With two outs against them in the third, the Golden Flashes stayed alive and plated four runs on four hits and an EMU error to take a 5-1 lead over the Eagles.
In the fifth, KSU scored its final run of the ballgame with back-to-back hits and would shut down EMU's bats through the remaining two innings to take the first of two games in the series.
The Eagles will face the Golden Flashes tomorrow to close out their opening weekend of MAC play. First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m.
