Eagles to host six games for the second consecutive season
Complete MAC Schedule.
YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) — Six home games and a pair of visits to Big Ten Conference foes Michigan State University and Purdue University highlight the 2012 football schedule released by the Eastern Michigan University Department of Athletics Thursday, March 29.
The Eagles will open their 121st season on the gridiron Thursday, Aug. 30, at Scheumann Stadium in Muncie, Ind. against Mid-American Conference foe Ball State University. The Aug. 30 contest will be the 12th Mid-American Conference season-opening game in school history. The last MAC game to start the season was 2006 when EMU also made the trek to BSU.
EMU then returns to the friendly confines of Rynearson Stadium to host Illinois State University, Sept. 8, before making trips to Purdue, Sept. 15, and Michigan State, Sept. 22.
A three-game home stand then awaits Head Coach Ron English's crew with games against Kent State University, Oct. 6, the University of Toledo, Oct. 13, and a non-conference affair with the Black Knights of Army, Oct. 20. Last season, Eastern Michigan posted a 5-1 record inside Rynearson Stadium, as the team finished the 2011 season with a 6-6 overall mark and a 4-4 record in league play.
Eastern Michigan then returns to the road for cross-division contests at Bowling Green State University, Oct. 27, and a Thursday, Nov. 1, battle at defending MAC East Division Champion Ohio University with a nationally televised contest on ESPNU.
The Green and White then looks to defend its 2011 Michigan MAC title with a Nov. 10 home game against Central Michigan University and a Nov. 17 road tilt at Western Michigan University. EMU then closes out the 2012 campaign by hosting Northern Illinois University, Nov. 23.
The regular season will conclude with the 15th MAC Football Championship game Friday, Nov. 30, at Ford Field in Detroit on ESPN2. This will mark the ninth MAC Football Championship game at Ford Field, home of the Detroit Lions, Super Bowl XL, and the 2009 NCAA Men's Final Four.
The 2012 season will also once again feature a six-week over-the-air syndication package in September and October produced and distributed by ESPN Regional Television (ERT). The six games, which can also be seen on ESPN Game Plan and ESPN3, will be announced in June.
This season will also feature the debut of UMass as the newest member of the MAC. UMass will begin conference play for the 2012 football season and will be eligible for the conference football championship game and a bowl game beginning in the 2013 football season.
Further game times and television appearances will be released at a later date. Individual and season ticket information will also be made available in the coming weeks.
