YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University women's track and field team will be heading to Allendale, Mich. Friday, Feb. 10, to compete in day one of a two-day event at Grand Valley State University. This year marks the fourth straight year that the women have traveled to Allendale for the GVSU “Big Meet”.
The 2012 GVSU “Big Meet” will begin at 10 a.m. Friday, Feb. 10, and finishes Saturday, Feb. 11, with more than 50 schools competing. There are over 1,800 entries currently in the meet.
Last year at the “Big Meet” Beverly Elcock and Rosie White were each extremely successful placing third in the 800-meter and the long jump respectively. Elcock's 2:06.86 set a new standard for the Mid-American Conference in the 800-meter run, 2:06.86. The time was a top-15 time nationally at the time last year. With her finish, Elcock also ran the event second-fastest in school history. The top place-winner for the Eagles was then-senior Ashlee Abraham who took second in the 200-meter dash.
