Eagles Remain in Fifth After Day Two of MAC Championships

EMU sits in fifth place after day two of the MAC Championships with 255 points

— The Eastern Michigan University women's swimming and diving team currently sits in fifth place with 255 points after the second day of events at the 2012 Mid-American Conference Championships at the Oliver J. Ocasek Natatorium Friday, Feb. 24.

The Eagles opened up this evening's finals with a seventh place finish in the 200 medley relay. Amanda Kiefer, Lauren Kalinosky, Meghan Richardson and Sara Ghafffari combined for a total time of 1:43.34 in the event.

In the 400 individual medley, Briana Emig raced her way onto a podium spot with a third place finish this evening. The junior completed the distance in 4:19.30, behind only Akron's Cat Carr (4:17.76) and Rachel Johnson (4:14.94).

Richardson was the only EMU swimmer to qualify for the 100 butterfly finals. She would place 10th this evening when she touched the wall in 55.67.

Helena Tolic would compete in the 200 freestyle final this evening, racing to a 1:51.20 finish and 11 points for the Green and White.

A pair of Eagles placed in the top-15 in the 100 breaststroke event. Monica Dorszewski placed 12th in the event after swimming to a time of 1:03.95. Kalinosky followed in 14th place after she managed to record a finish of 1:04.12.

Kiefer medaled in the 100 backstroke final after taking third in the event with her time of 55.06. Ohio's Rachel Stearns was runner-up in 54.70, while Miami's Leah Thornton took home the title in 54.42.

On the three meter boards semifinals, Lauren Dark led EMU with a fourth place, 285.75 performance. Melynee Saya would place sixth in that event, tallying 280.45 for the Eagles.

Godlewski, Emig, Tolic and Wesley Blassneck closed out the evening session with a fourth place finish in the 800 freestyle relay. The quartet combined for a 7:26.80 performance.

EMU will compete in the final day of the MAC Swimming and Diving Championships tomorrow, Feb. 24. The morning session will be composed of preliminaries for the 200 backstroke, 200 butterfly, 100 freestyle, 200 breaststroke, and 1,650 freestyle. The evening session will feature final heats in those events as well as the 400 freestyle relay.
