TULSA, Okla. (EMUEagles.com)— The Eastern Michigan University baseball team built a 2-0 lead before it was erased by a 10-run third inning for Oral Roberts University, who handed the Eagles an 11-6 setback Friday, Feb. 24, in game one of a weekend series. Four EMU batters notched multiple hits on the afternoon and Bo Kinder had four RBI.
Kinder went 3-for-5 Friday and Ben Magsig hit the Eagles' first home run of the season in the first inning, finishing 1-for-3 with a pair of walks. Sam Ott, Tucker Rubino and Austin Williams each went 2-for-4 with a run scored.
On the mound, the Eagles' (0-3) starting pitching was roughed up for a second consecutive game, as Joe Battistelli (0-2) lasted just two and one-thirds innings while giving up six runs on six hits. Reliever Jordan Glover rebounded from a tough outing in his last appearance, striking out a career-high eight hitters in five innings of work.
Oral Roberts (1-4) earned its first win of the year. Drew Bowen (1-0) picked up the victory after pitching a rocky five innings in which he allowed six earned runs and walked five. Nate Goro went 3-5 with four RBI, and Jared Schlehuber hit his second home run of the season, driving in three runs. Cam Schiller also hit his first home run of the season.
Magsig put the Eagles ahead, 2-0, with one out in the first inning on a homer to left field. That score held until third inning, when ORU struck for 10 runs and eight hits.
Eastern Michigan added a pair of runs in the fourth and sixth innings to make it a 10-6 contest. Kinder's two-RBI single in the fourth drove in Williams and Ott, and a double in the sixth plated Daniel Russell and Rubino.
The Golden Eagles' bullpen shut down the EMU offense for the rest of the game, allowing no runs and striking out five through the final three innings.
The middle game of the series is slated for Saturday afternoon, Feb. 25, at 3 p.m. ET.
