TOLEDO, Ohio (EMUEagles.com)
— Despite unbearable temperatures that reached the mid-90s this evening, the Eastern Michigan University women's cross country endured the heat and ran to a second place team finish at the Toledo Rocket Open.

The Eagles scored 40 points in their season opening event, and placed two athletes in the top-10. Leading the way for the Green and White was Morgan Churchwell (Ada, Mich.-Forest Hills Central). The junior paced the Eagles with her 18:02.40 finish time at the Ottawa Park course in Toledo, Ohio—17.4 seconds ahead of the nearest competitor.

Courtney Calka (Livonia, Mich.-Stevenson)
was the next EMU harrier to cross the finish line in 18:49.30 for a sixth place finish, while teammates Natalie Webb (Allen Park, Mich.-Woodhaven) and Beverly Elcock (Ft. Wayne, Ind.-Northrop) took 11th and 13th, respectively.

The Eagles will return to action on Friday, Sept. 9 at the George Dales Invitational hosted by Western Michigan University. EMU will look to repeat their 2010 performance where the Green and White took first at the event, highlighted by Calka's first place, 20:48.20 Pine View Golf Club 6k course record time.
