TOLEDO, Ohio (EMUEagles.com)
—The Eastern Michigan University men's cross country team lived up to their preseason ranking of the top team in the Mid-American Conference this evening after opening up the 2011 campaign with a 28 point, first place finish at the Toledo Rocket Open.

The Green and White placed four runners in the top-10, and were led by Terefe Ejigu (Mount Cook, Wellington/Wellington College (New Zealand)) who completed the distance in 15:19.70 for the top time of the evening. The junior outran the 34-participant field, and finished nearly 19 seconds ahead of the next runner to cross the finish line at the Ottawa Park course in Toledo, Ohio.

Grzegorz Kalinowski (Torun, Poland-Nicholas Copernicus University)
also put together an impressive performance of 15:42.70 in third place, while Harry Dixon (Nelson, New Zealand-Nayland College) and Ian Hancke (Haslett, Mich.-Haslett) finished sixth and seventh, respectively.

Head Coach John Goodridge felt today's competition was a good gage to determine what can be done in terms of training to continue to improve as a team.

"We faced a much improved Toledo team which gave us a good competitive experience for where we are in our training," said Goodridge. "We have not had our first team practice yet having just arrived on campus so this was a good reality check for us to evaluate our summer preparation."

The Eagles will take a week off before returning to action at the 31st Annual Spartan Invitational in East Lansing, Mich. on Sept. 16. The event is slated for a 1 p.m.
